Treating Shoulder & Arm Pain

Treating Shoulder & Arm Pain

Pain in the shoulder or arm can make certain movements difficult, interfere with the ability to carry out everyday tasks, and even make sleeping difficult.

Physical therapy can help by increasing strength and flexibility. Dr. Mohinder Chawdhry, the experienced osteopractor at Total Health Center in Battle Creek and Lake Odessa, MI, treats shoulder & arm pain.

Shoulder Arm Conditions and Injuries

Shoulder and arm pain can develop due to various factors, such as an injury, overuse from repetitive movements, or a health condition like arthritis. Pain and discomfort can also develop in the shoulder or arm due to degenerative joint changes that sometimes result from aging.

Some injuries and conditions that can affect the shoulders and arms and cause pain and discomfort include:

  • Bursitis involves inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs that protect the tendons.
  • Dislocation can develop if the shoulder or elbow joint shifts out of place.
  • Osteoarthritis is a gradual wearing away of cartilage in the shoulder or elbow joint.
  • Rotator Cuff Tears can occur in tissues around the shoulder joint that connect the muscle to the bone.
  • Shoulder Impingement Syndrome happens when the space between the shoulder bone and the rotator cuff tendons is reduced.
  • Shoulder instability Condition occurs when the upper arm bone is not held firmly in place in the shoulder joint as it should be.
  • Frozen Shoulder Condition is associated with thickening and tightening of the tissues surrounding the shoulder joint.
